Rainy Day Itinerary for Maui
Maui has beautiful weather year-round, but Hawai’i isn’t known as the rainbow state for nothing! Rain can, and does, happen here. And while we totally understand that you’re on vacation and the last thing you probably want is to have it tainted by less than ideal weather conditions, unfortunately on a tropical island, the weather is one thing you cannot control on your trip.
First things first:
Go to another part of the island! Just because it may be overcast and rainy in one area, it doesn’t mean that it is how the entire island is.
Kihei and Paia are usually the hottest and sunniest parts of the island. Take a trip there to lay out on the beach, take a surf lesson, or go snorkeling!
If these areas are also raining, or if you’re trying to stay out of the sun because you overdid it the day before (we’ve all been there!) there are plenty of indoor adventures that you can try.
Get Your Bounce Back
What better way to beat the blues than to feel like a kid again? Maui Trampoline Park is located in Wailuku and open nearly every day from 12-6 p.m.
There’s also Fun Factory if you wanna get your arcade game on!
Visit the Aquarium
Maui Ocean Center is home to one of the world’s largest collections of Pacific corals, and they focus on education and conservation of marine wildlife. An excellent choice for any age, doors are open throughout the week from 9-5 p.m with the last entry at 3:30 PM.
Grab a Drink
You can find sunshine in liquid form here on the island in many brews and cocktails alike, so even if it’s cloudy, you can still get lit! Just remember to please drink responsibly.
Here are our picks:
Waikiki Brewery
Maui Brewing Co.
Kohola Brewing

Shop ‘til you drop!
Window shop the luxury shops at Wailea, the boutiques in Paia or Makawao, or cruise through the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center only a few miles from the hostel. Swap meets are small outdoor markets all around the island that feature local crafts, jewelry, and other goods. Also, CUT Market is a local vintage thrift store right on N. Market St., and they will also buy your gently used clothing if you’re looking to lighten your suitcase!
And our personal favorite, check out all there is to do and eat right here in Wailuku!
We can’t wait to have you experience Maui for yourself!
